Equity refers to ownership. It is most often used as a synonym for common stock of a publicly tradedcompany. generally refers to the buying and holding of shares of stock on a stock market by individuals andfunds in anticipation of income from dividends and capital gain as the value of the stock rises.
1. The ownership interest of common and preferred stockholders in a corporation.
2. In a margin or short account, equity equals what is owned minus what is owed.
